Josef Maier was born on 28 February
1944, is a German former professional
football goalkeeper. who was known
to be one of
Germany's greatest ever goalkeepers, he was
nicknamed "Die Katze von Anzing " meaning "the cat from Anzing" for his fast reflexes.
Born in Metten , Bavaria, Maier spent his
entire professional career at Bayern Munich.
He began playing for Bayern's youth sides in
1958. [3] During the 1970s, he was part of the
legendary Bayern team which included the
likes of Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller
and won three European Cups in a row, a
German record. Between 1966 and 1979 he
played in 442 consecutive Bundesliga
matches, still a German national record.
In terms of ability, loyalty, and the
number of titles he won; Maier is the one
who deserves to be crowned as Germany's
best goalkeeper of all time. He spent 18
years of his career playing for one of the most successful clubs in his country, Bayern Munich. Together with Munich,he was elected as Germany's best footballer in three times, won four bundesliga titles and three times the UEFA champions league winner, he also helped German national team
